Trend Alert: Bohemian Lux

I recently decided to start creating moodboards. It’s a relaxing project for me to do in my down time and I am able to satisfy my desire to decorate and redecorate without having to spend any money. That’s always a plus!  Continue reading “Trend Alert: Bohemian Lux”

Glutton for Punishment: 10 Things I Want from the Anthropologie Fall Collection

Oh Anthropologie, the store I love to hate, but would hate to live without. It never fails that I find something that I love and immediately wish to own when I visit an Anthropologie store. Whether or not I can afford it at that moment in time is a different story. Continue reading “Glutton for Punishment: 10 Things I Want from the Anthropologie Fall Collection”

Be on Trend- Give Your Mom a Succulent Planter for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day has totally snuck up on me. I know, it’s this Sunday so technically there’s still time for a last-minute gift. However, I am more of a two weeks out planner, but I was just now able to get the materials for this succulent planter. I honestly don’t even know if my mom likes succulents. I know she likes plants, so I’m just going to go with it. Continue reading “Be on Trend- Give Your Mom a Succulent Planter for Mother’s Day”

Lupita Covers Vogue, Again!

Lupita Nyong’o is on the cover of the upcoming October Vogue. This makes the second cover in a row that Vogue has featured a black woman, and it’s Lupita’s second cover for Vogue (her first was in July of 2014). These are all good things. What’s even better is the photo spread inside. Continue reading “Lupita Covers Vogue, Again!”

Quick, Tie Something Around Your Neck!

So, at the late date of January 15th, the Neckline Trend of The Year is here!!! Now, I’m all for discovering trends and wearing them repeatedly until someone hits me over the head with a bat. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy that? **crickets**

It’s easy to see how this trend has garnered such attention so quickly. It was just this past Sunday night that several leading ladies wore amazing halter neck dresses on the red carpet.

Now, unlike these gorgeous ladies who attended the Golden Globes, I live on the east coast, in Maryland. Today it was 37 degrees outside when I left my house. If I wanted to wear a lovely halter neck dress, I would have had to hide it under several layers. So what’s a girl to do if she wants to get a good seat near a window on the bandwagon?

Well, first things first. Material choice is key. Look for a heavier grade of cotton or wool. Second, don’t be afraid to pair your halter dress with a turtle neck or top it with a wrap shirt. And lastly, for dressier occasions, tights and cashmere shawls or scarves are always a chic solution. Even a fun bolero or shrunken tuxedo jacket can add warmth and style to halter dress in the dead of February.

Fall Beauty Bag

Every season I go through my mediocre beauty bag and weed out eye shadows I’ve hardly worn, mascaras that are technically a biohazard, and lip-glosses that have definitely seen better days. I’m the first to admit that I am not big on make-up. I’d much rather lay in bed pretending I could sleep sleep in 10 more minutes than spend them putting eyeliner on, only to wipe it off when I realize I don’t know how to put make-up on. I’ve been trying to master the cat eye, winged tip for TWO years now. I’m a goner. But, my ill fated attempts do not deter me from lusting after the latest beauty products that get released. Sephora is like the ultimate candy shop for me. It would only get better if they served complimentary coffee and red velvet cupcakes. Seriously, Sephora, think about it.

This fall, I think I’m finally ready to move in to a regular beauty routine. I’ve done pretty well applying foundation, lipgloss, and mascara most mornings. I am nearly 30 after all and since I love make-up so much, I should actually try using it on a daily basis instead of letting it become petrified in my make-up bag. Since I finally have a few brands that I regularly purchase and use, I put together a little must have list that may inspire you to head out and go to your nearest Sephora or Ulta or Target (whatever floats your boat and is within your shopping distance radius) to stock up on some lush fall colors.

  1. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
I use this for my everyday look. My shade is walnut and I recommend going to Sephora and having an expert help you find your proper shade. I was super happy to finally find my appropriate shade. It’s been a battle, but I am very, very pleased with Laura Mercier.

2. Nars lipstick

This lipstick was my first lipstick purchase ever. I bought it from Bath and Body Works and I have never looked back. Since it’s fall, I plan to stock up on a rich burgundy or plum and a velvety mocha or chocolate.

3. Maybelline Mascara

I love Maybelline mascara and have yet to find one that works better and is as cost effective. You can’t beat $5 mascara.

4. Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

I got this gem as a sample a few years ago and I’ve never looked back. I’ll admit I don’t use it every day, but when I have a date (haha) or a wedding or party (most likely to happen) I like to use this under my foundation because it will make you look flawless.

5. Laura Mercier Oil Free Supreme Foundation

For a fuller coverage, I opt for Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Supreme Foundation. It offers a matte finish with oil control and it comes in a variety of shades. Kinda perfect. Actually, it is perfect.

6. Sephora Collection IT Palette in Nude

Great colors that compliment my skin tone and enhance dark eyes.

7. Sephora Collection IT Palette in Smoky

Great colors for a night out that add pizazz and spunk. Plus, do you not love those cases? I mean come on!

8. Marc Jacobs‘ Lola

I just love this scent and I honestly wear it all year round.

9. Tocca‘s Stella

This is a recent love. I spent a gorgeous afternoon sampling every fragrance in Anthropologie with a good friend and sure, we may have overdone it a bit, but it was totally worth it.

10. Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow

I first read about this product on Refinery29’s website and I knew I had to have it. I am slowly letting my over plucked eyebrows grow in a little (*cough*Lily Collins *cough*). Yay, full brows!
