Gregory Parkinson Spring 2014 RTW

Part flower child, part 90’s Liv Tyler, this collection pulls together knits, lace, and floral motifs like no other. There’s something very pure and refreshing about it. The white lace top paired with the floral shorts is my favorite. It’s simple, clean, and elegant.

Jason Wu Spring 2014 RTW

Jason Wu knows how to make a lady look good. This collection creates a look that has a tough exterior , yet it’s made with soft, shimmery fabrics. Kind of reminds me of Angelina Jolie pre-Brad Pitt and kids.

Kate Spade Spring 2014 RTW

Have you ever seen the classic Funny Face? It’s a great movie. Perfect for a girl’s night in or a Friday night when you don’t feel like getting primped and proper for a night on the town. Anyway, this collections screams Funny Face to me. Audrey Hepburn reinvented for the millennium. She’s quirky, smart, funny, and obviously still very, very stylish.

10 Crosby Derek Lam Spring 2014 RTW

This is the sort of collection that features clothes that I imagine Fashion Editors wear. Kind of avant garde and minimalist, yet trendy. There’s a futuristic vibe to this collection. Or maybe I’m full of shit and I have no idea what I’m talking about cause I’ve been looking at fashion shows ALL DAY LONG.

I mean, it’s nice.

Zimmermann Spring 2014 RTW

Um, can you say Sexy Bombshell? Cause, that’s what everyone will be saying when you walk by in any of these looks. The dresses…the pants outfits… the unitards  bodysuits for crying out loud! Who would’ve thought I’d be ready to don a bodysuit again. I used to love them when I was in 4th grade. I went through a luxe, baroque phase where everything I owned was crushed velvet, jewel-toned, and needed to be worn with a pearl choker. I repeat, I was in 4th grade. Way ahead of my game. I even had these tweed shorts I wore with tights and Mary Janes. Classic.  I like these bodysuits a little more. More refined and grown up. Perfect to go from the work to cocktail hour.

Richard Chai Love Spring 2014 RTW

This collection reminds me of the early nineties for some reason. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s full on nostalgia happening. Anyway, this show featured sharp middle of the head parts, somber expressions, and leather jackets everywhere. The fit ranges from close to body and tailored to loose and boxy. I loved the leather moto jackets and crop top/maxi skirt sets. Other than that, I feel like I’ve been there and done that.

Organic by John Patrick Spring 2014 RTW

This collections exudes ease. With its oversized, relaxed shapes, and cool earth tones, it reminds me of every Saturday I wish I had. The bronze pieces are my favorites. They look polished, yet understated and so “Oh this? I just threw this on.” Casual and elegant. It’s how I hope to dress one day when I grow up become rich.

Creatures of the Wind Spring 2014 RTW

This collection reminded me of the clothes you find at thrift stores and you kind of like them, but are not sure whether or not you can pull it off or if you even want to pull it off. It’s the kind of collection that has all the clothes that the “we’re too cool to even want to be cool” kids wear. Meh, I’ll take a classic pencil skirt or floral Zac Posen dress any day over this, but that’s just me.

Wardrobe Envy: Mad Men

The women of Mad Men have some of the best wardrobes on television. From Betty Draper’s prim and proper, impeccably fitted dresses and twin sets to Jane’s figure hugging pencil skirts and sheaths, Mad Men knows style. There’s no doubt that I am merely a speck of sand in the sea of fans who would love to snatch the wardrobe closet key and wander through the racks of clothing. Now I don’t know where you are season-wise or how many episodes on Netflix you need to catch up on…you go to work, I know. So, I’m just going to assume you’ve watched the latest two seasons and know what I mean when I say I want to dance around in Megan Draper‘s closet and sing Zou Zou Bisou. Don’t kill my dream man.

Style Inspiration: Bold Lips

Something about the summer brings out the extrovert in all of us. Is it the hotter temperatures that brings out our inner exhibitionist? All of a sudden sweet and innocent Mary Sue is trading in her cotton chinos and slipping into a sheer crop top with high waisted shorts. No one saw it coming. Take a look down the street. Skirts get shorter. Tops quickly move through the phases of opaque to sheer. Walk through a local boutique and you’ll notice that every dress or shirt is backless, with cut outs on each side. Now, while I do enjoy a nice backless dress/shirt as much as the next gal, it can be a little intimidating to go from zero to naked. However, you don’t have to sit the summer out and hide your inner, bolder, you. Take a walk down the nearest drug store make-up aisle and you’ll see another summer trend-bold lip colors.  It’s an affordable way to shake up your normal, everyday look.  Bonus: you can wear this look to work and save your cropped tops and flowy mini skirts for that weekend festival.
