I Should’ve Been A Socialite

I remember the first time I saw the title “Socialite” used to describe a person. I was thumbing through an issue of Vogue magazine and there it was, in a caption under the photo of an immaculately dressed woman. Where did I go wrong? How did I end up not being photographed at a swanky event, wearing the latest designer duds, sipping champagne? What left turn did I make when I should’ve gone right? The world may never know….

God Bless Tom Ford

Today marked the start of New York Fashion Week! Another year where I am sitting in my office scrolling through the images on my work desktop. Another year where I am bracing for the unattainable and undesirable. And yet. Here is Tom Ford with his Spring 2019 collection that makes me yearn for fall, cool crisp air, and a city street block to walk upon.

Give Me Temperley or Give Me Death….Actually, just Temperley will be Fine

Looking over Temperley London’s Spring 2016 RTW collection just makes me want to grab a paper fan, drop some more ice cubes in my mojito, and lean back.  Continue reading “Give Me Temperley or Give Me Death….Actually, just Temperley will be Fine”

Herve Leger – Fall 2014 RTW

Max Azria loves a good bandage dress. Honestly, who doesn’t? This Fall collection presents a slightly updated bandage dress (more straightjacket and fringey) along with some lovely cut out dresses, asymmetrical necklines, studded gowns, and black swan like feathered jackets and cloaks. I loved the darkness and street-chicness of it all. Now, everybody head over to my Kickstarter page and give me money so I can be one of the cool kids!

Lela Rose Spring 2014 RTW

Another lovely collection from the lovely Lela Rose. She even has a lovely name. It’s just all so lovely.

Okay, I’m done. The dresses, to me, are the highlight of this collection. She knows how to showcase a woman’s body magnificently.

Mulberry Spring 2014 RTW

Okay, what I loved about this collection:

  • Boxy silhouettes
  • Floral jacquard prints
  • Sleeveless jumpsuits and dresses

What I didn’t love:

  • Everything else

It was just so so to me. However, the website does offer some pricey lovely handbags and womenswear.

Temperley London Spring 2014 RTW

I love Temperley London. The ethereal gowns and wispy chiffon blouses are beautiful. Nip slips aside, they’re gorgeous articles of clothing. Alice Temperley knows how to make amazing pieces that you want to wrap yourself up in. Her Spring 2014 ready to wear collection, shown at London’s Fashion Week didn’t disappoint. From the natural, berry lips to the floral and animal print mashups, it was all breathtakingly lovely. Don’t you just love the ladylike dress and jacket combos?

Hot Colors for Spring 2014

So, after sifting through all the images of New York Fashion Week (NYFW -which I spent 2 days misinterpreting as NSFW), I have seen some fairly pronounced trends:

Bight colors- specifically coral, fuchsia, purple
Lace
Metallic Nudes
Floral motifs

Nowhere is this proliferation of trends more evident than in Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2014 RTW collection. Here are my favorites from her delicately, dazzling, divine collection:
